![]() Not so long ago I was asked to create a layout that looked like a magazine. At the time I thought hmmmm! However I designed one and realised how effective it was and thought I would do a tutorial on it. It makes a nice change to make something a little different to the usual tag. All images used in this tutorial are free to use tubes. No copyright or license is required for these. Supplies included All images shown above are included in my supplies. I have also included the font for the bar code. Download supplies Here These magazines are great fun to create and really easy to do, so let's get started. Open a new file sized 600 x 600. Go to your colour pallete and choose black and white as your two colours with white as your foreground colour. Click on the white colour block to bring up your material options and select Gradient. You should see the black and white gradient at the top. Click on it and check your settings against mine, then click OK. ![]() Fill your background with the gradient colour. You will see that the top is darker than the bottom. Now you can add your images but remember you will need to leave a gap at the top so you can type the name of your magazine. You don't really want it to cut across the face of your main image. You will also need to think of a good name for your magazine. Make it bold and change your font width so you have a clear border around your text. Make sure your font is set to Vector as you will need to stretch out your title. Dont' add any dropped shadows to your text as it doesn't really work well for this kind of work. For your headlines, use a simple clear font. I pretty much used basic fonts for mine. Once you have added all your headlines, don't forget to place your watermark somewhere on the magazine. Merge all layers and then add a border. My border width is set at 12. For the border pick a colour that is similar to the magazine cover. You don't want it to look like a picture frame so be as near to the colour as possible. When done, save. Well that's it. You have finished your first magazine cover. Now you can go on to make more. The image below is another magazine cover I created. ![]() Artwork used in the above image is by Jamie Kidd.
